Home/Guides/Funding with an existing advance

Guide · October 2026

Can I get practice funding if I already have a cash advance?

Often, yes — if you disclose it. MedStream Capital does not fund over an undisclosed position, and we will find it in your bank statements anyway; disclosed, we either structure around it or consolidate it into one payment. The floor is unchanged — $15,000 a month in deposits, 6 months in business, no FICO minimum — and if total payments would exceed what your deposits support, we decline rather than stack.

Why disclosure decides the file

A working capital advance is repaid by a fixed daily or weekly debit from your business account. If another funder is already pulling one, it shows in four months of statements as a recurring debit. Disclosed, it is one more number in the file. Undisclosed, it is the single most common reason MedStream Capital declines an application, because the rest of the file is now in question.

So the real question is not whether you can get funding with an advance open. It is whether your deposits can carry a second payment, or whether the first one should be folded into a single payment. That is a sizing question, answered on bank statements, not on a credit score.

What the underwriter looks at

The same five things we read on every file, with the existing advance at the center:

  • Average monthly deposits, across all business accounts.
  • Number of deposits per month, which shows how steady the payer mix is.
  • Lowest daily balance after the current debit runs.
  • Negative days. An account run to zero every cycle is a published decline reason even when deposits are strong.
  • The existing advance itself: how much leaves each day or week, and what is left to pay.

What you’ll need

  • Four months of business bank statements
  • The current balance or payoff figure on each open advance
  • The agreement for each open advance
  • A plain list of every open position: advances, loans, lines
  • Business legal name, EIN and entity type
  • A phone number you answer on the day you apply

Disclose everything up front. We will see it in the statements.

The term-loan route, for established practices

Refinancing two or three disclosed advances into a single monthly payment over 3 to 5 years usually cuts the weekly cash drain substantially, and it is one of the better uses of a partner term loan. It needs the partner bank’s criteria: 24 months in business, a 600+ personal FICO and two years of business tax returns. Three things kill that file, in order: undisclosed positions found in the statements, fewer than 24 months in business, and a debt-service coverage ratio below 1.15. If any of those apply, in-house working capital is usually the only thing that will fund, and we say so rather than running you through a 4-week process that ends in a decline.

Can a line of credit sit next to an advance?

Sometimes. Where total debt service fits what your deposits support, a MedStream Capital line alongside an advance is workable. Where it does not, we will say so and decline rather than stack.

What it costs

A consolidation is priced like any MedStream Capital advance: a fixed total cost in dollars, known on day one. On our $154,000 worked example over 12 months, total payback runs $185,000 to $200,000 at typical pricing. Part of a consolidation goes to the old balance, so ask for both numbers — the total and the cash to you — before you sign. Pay early and up to 30% of the remaining balance comes off.

FAQ

Questions that usually follow.

Will an existing cash advance get my practice declined?

Not by itself, if it is disclosed. MedStream Capital does not fund over an undisclosed position, and an undisclosed advance found in the bank statements is our most common decline reason. Disclosed, we either structure around it or consolidate it into one payment.

Can you consolidate my current advance into one payment?

Often, yes. MedStream Capital can consolidate a disclosed advance into a single payment when your deposits support it. Established practices with 24+ months in business, a 600+ FICO and two years of returns can also refinance two or three disclosed advances into one monthly partner term loan over 3 to 5 years.

Can I have a line of credit and an advance at the same time?

Sometimes, if everything is disclosed. Where total debt service fits what your deposits support, a line alongside an advance is workable; where it does not, MedStream Capital will say so and decline rather than stack.

Does MedStream Capital stack advances?

No. MedStream Capital will not fund over an undisclosed position, and if an advance would push your debt service past what your deposits support, we decline and tell you why.

Is there a prepayment penalty if I pay off early?

No. There is never a prepayment penalty on a MedStream Capital product. Paying off early earns a discount of up to 30% of the remaining balance.
